Block Parties

Are you tired of your parents, uncles, and aunts ranting about how the 80's block parties were this.... how the block parties were that? Well, here's a chance to experience it for yourself. "Block Party NYC 2008" is an attempt to bring back the idea of the neighborhood block parties and their ability to bring relatively any community together through music, food, and fun. Check the schedule for block parties going on in your area, and maybe even sign up for a grant to throw your own.

Clean Energy Production Tax Credit

"Clean Energy = Green Economy"

As complicated as the title might lead you to believe the issue is, it's actually quite simple but nevertheless...critical. For as long as we can remember, politics and a vast number of government agencies have openly funded oil drilling and the mass production of energy by means of fossil fuel. This obviously has had its consequences on both the environment and the integrity of certain branches of the U.S government, regarding oil slick kickbacks. And now it's time to make a change.

Environment New York has put a plan into action that will hopefully persuade Congress to pass the "Clean Energy Production Tax Credit." The passing of this bill is an attempt shift government investments away from oil and fossil fuels and towards wind, solar, and other alternative forms of energy, which in time, can not only benefit the environment but also produce thousands of jobs for Americans. This, in turn, will help the U.S. economy, which for obvious reasons, can use all the help it can get. But...as always, there's a problem.

The bill is currently being filibustered, meaning that it's pretty much up in limbo until our senators vote to put it into action. Here's where you can help.

The voting will take place this Thursday, July 31. Environment New York is persuading New Yorkers to call their senators and help persuade them to pass the "Clean Energy Production Tax Credit." It will take you five minutes to help change not only this city, but cities around the country for generations to come.
